ZOMBIES

Description

The Zombies are a faction from the Core Set, standing alongside seven other unique factions: Aliens, Dinosaurs, Ninjas, Pirates, Robots, Tricksters, and Wizards. This faction excels at recycling power from the discard pile, allowing them to summon minions back into play. With a low complexity rating, the Zombies offer a straightforward yet formidable playing experience.

Cards Overview

The Zombie faction is comprised of 10 minions and 10 actions, offering a unique blend of gameplay options. Notably, the total base power of their minions is slightly below average, totaling 27 and averaging 2.7 power per minion, compared to the standard 30 and 3. Their action cards are divided into several categories, including two play-on-base actions: Overrun and They're Coming To Get You. The remaining actions are standard, with eight cards that do not interact with minions: Grave Robbing appears twice, alongside Lend a Hand, Mall Crawl, Not Enough Bullets, Outbreak, and two instances of They Keep Coming. There are no actions that directly boost a minion's power and no play-on-minion actions in the Zombie faction.
2x Grave Robbing - Place a card from your discard pile into your hand. 1x Lend a Hand - Shuffle any number of cards from your discard pile into your deck. 1x Mall Crawl - Search your deck for any number of cards with the same name and place them into your discard pile. Shuffle your deck. 1x Not Enough Bullets - Place any number of minions with the same name from your discard pile into your hand. 1x Outbreak - Play an extra minion on a base where you have no minions. 1x Overrun - Play on a base. Ongoing: Other players cannot play minions on this base. Destroy this action at the start of your turn. 2x They Keep Coming - Play an extra minion from your discard pile. 1x They’re Coming To Get You - Play on a base. Ongoing: Once on your turn, you may play a minion here from your discard pile instead of from your hand.

Strategy

The Zombies' strength lies in swarming the battlefield with numerous minions, making them a great match for factions that can further amplify their numbers or unlock special abilities among their undead horde.

Synergies

The Zombies faction excels at flooding the field with an overwhelming number of minions, making them a perfect match for factions that can amplify this advantage or capitalize on the chaos. Factions that facilitate card discard can also create a powerful synergy with the Zombies. Pairing Zombies with Robots can lead to an unstoppable force, as the sheer number of minions on the field can be reinforced by the Robots' ability to swarm and explode back onto the field after a base is massively over-broken. This combination is notoriously potent and can be a game-changer. Teaming up with Pirates can be particularly frustrating for opponents, as the Zombies provide a relentless backup for the Pirates' First Mates, making them a more difficult target to eliminate. The Pirates' ability to move minions around the field also complements the Zombie Lord's power, and this partnership becomes even more formidable with more players in the game. Ghosts can help Zombies manage their discard pile, while the Zombies can return cards to their hand, providing fuel for the Ghosts' Spirits. This mutual support allows the Zombies to thrive even with an empty hand. The unlikely alliance between Zombies and Killer Plants may evoke a popular meme, but it's a surprisingly effective combination. The Plants' Sprouts can quickly deploy the Zombies' Tenacious Z's, and in return, the Zombies can shield the Plants from their Achilles' heel: minion destruction.

Tips

Zombies thrive by rendering minion destruction nearly obsolete, thanks to their exceptional revival capabilities. As a result, opponents will likely focus on overpowering your minions instead. A key aspect of Zombie strategy is taking advantage of the opportunity to replay minions, particularly Tenacious Zs, after a base is broken. This ability to quickly redeploy minions is what makes Zombies a competitive force, despite their relatively lower power levels. The Zombie player's overall approach is straightforward: minimize the number of minions in their deck and hand, especially Tenacious Zs. Since all players can view each other's discard piles at any time, it's challenging for Zombies to conceal their plans. Typically, they will play Mall Crawl and Walkers as soon as possible. As decks begin to run low, they will use Lend a Hand to replenish their deck with non-essential cards, including actions, and ensure Grave Robbing is among them. Once Grave Robbing is drawn, they will play it to return Lend a Hand to their hand, allowing them to recycle their discard pile again. The goal is to carefully manage which cards remain in the discard pile and which are returned to the deck. Disrupting this cycle is the most effective way to hinder a Zombie player's progress.
